Supporting the Long-Term Recovery of Greater Pine Island
Following Hurricane Ian in September 2022, the greater Pine Island community on Florida’s Southwest Coast was devastated. Cut off from the mainland, with no on-Island entity to address the community’s immediate needs, Island-based nonprofits sprang into action. To improve coordination, reach, effectiveness and efficiencies of these many groups, local residents created the Greater Pine Island Alliance (GPIA) to work with the groups as a coordinating entity and to maximize the return on recovery investment, align with preferred nonprofit practices, and improve organizational effectiveness.
The GPIA is focused on helping the residents of Matlacha Isles, Matlacha, Pine Island Center, St. James City, Pineland and Bokeelia rebuild their homes and their lives.
