Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, with the peak of the season running from August through October. The time to prepare for a tropical storm or hurricane is well in advance.
All of Pine Island is in storm surge evacuation zone A. Generally this is the zone that is most at risk and most likely to be evacuated first in advance of a pending storm. The greatest threat to life from a hurricane is storm surge flooding. If you are in an ordered evacuation zone, low-lying flood area or in a mobile home, you should follow all evacuation orders. However, if you are not in an ordered evacuation zone, low-lying flood prone area, mobile home or unsafe structure, then it may be safer to stay in your home. Always heed the advice and orders of local officials during a storm.
Preparation Guides
Local, state and federal agencies have developed hurricane preparedness guides to help you plan for a tropical storm or hurricane. The time to review these checklists and make a plan is before hurricane season!
